[Music] Justice Bao Theme Song – Worthy of Tears

I think we finally have all the info for this song! You can watch the high quality MV for 值得流淚 aka “Worthy of Tears” on YouTube. The composer for the song is Tang Chi Wah, the lyricist is Cheung Mei Yin – the same team behind ah Fung’s other famous theme songs such as “Love to search for you in memories” (The Drive of Life) and of course “Love with no regrets” (Moonlight Resonance)! So you can be sure this song is going to be quality! :D

值得流淚
pinyin by kat (1st time! let me know if it’s wrong/weird), English translation by Choccho @ AF

夜盡了 我會暢快飲醉
(ye juen liu, ngor wui cheung fai yum jui)
The night ends, I drown myself with wine
讓苦水變作了絕句
(yeung fu shui bin jok liu juet gui)
Allowing sorrows to become an end in itself
繁華盛世似月星跌墜
(farn wah sing sai chi yuet sing dit jui)
The grandeur and splendour of life is like falling comets
大笑過後灑眼淚
(dai siu gwor hau sa ngan lui)
After laughter comes tears
夢裡我是瘋子不是誰
(mung lui ngor si fung ji but si shui)
In the dreams of dreams, I am nobody but a fool
為何讓你進駐我心裡
(wai hor yeung nei juen ju ngor sum lui)
Why do I allow you to stay in my heart
未伸手去碰已後退
(mei san sau hui pong yi hau tui)
You left before I could even reach out my hands
浮雲葉絮會隨風散聚
(fau wan yip sui wui chui fung sarn jui)
The floating clouds and the rustling leaves will be ruffled away by the winds
煩惱太重心太累
(farn no tai jung sum tai lui)
Mentally burdened, physically drained
沒有寄望也就沒唏噓
(moot yau gei mong ya jau moot hei hui)
Where there is no hope, there will be no disappointments

*痛到何程度值得真流淚
(tung doh hor ching doh jik duck jang lau lui)
What is the threshold of pain worthy for my endless tears
愛到何程度值得一再追
(oi doh hor ching doh jik duck yat joi jui)
What is the threshold of love worthy for my endless pursue
地老再等天荒 多麼教人憔悴
(dei lo joi dang tin fong, dor mor gau yan chiu shui)
The earth waits for the heavens, tormenting people in languish
誓言若似太難記住別記取
(sai yin yurk chi tai naan gei ju bit gei chui)
If an oath is not to be remembered, do not then commit it to memory
到哪天承受什麼都能睡
(doh na tin sing sau sam mor doh naan shui)
Till the day whatever comes I am able to ease myself to sleep
要哪天才愿活得心似水
(yiu na tin choi yuen woot duck sum chi shui)
Only until that day shall I live a life like water
步上了這天階 怎可往後退
(bo shang liu je tin gai, jum hor wong hau tui)
Arriving at this heavenly border how can I move backwards
自言自語我越說就越心虛
(ji yin ji yu ngor yuet suet jau yuet sum hui)
Self-talking my way to emptiness
都只得說下去
(doh ji duck suet ha hui)
And I can only continue to talk

為何讓你進駐我心裡
(wai hor yeung nei juen ju ngor sum lui)
Why do I allow you to stay in my heart
未伸手去碰已後退
(mei sang sau hui pong yi hau tui)
You left before I could even reach out my hands
尋常別過哪日可再聚
(chum shang bit gwor na yat hor joi jui)
In search of the day of our reunion
誰也發現失去誰
(shui ya fat yin sat hui shui)
Anyone could realize the loss of someone
亦會繼續過度換新居
(yik wui gai juk gwor doh woon sang gui)
And continue to move forward

*repeat

Hi Kat, The following is my translation of the lyrics. I love this song very much and translated the lyrics that I would like to share with you guys so that the non-Chinese friends can have a better understanding of the meaning. You are welcome to comment and let me know if you feel improvement can be done.

    夜盡了 我會暢快飲醉
The night has come to the end, I immersed myself in wine.

    讓苦水變作了絕句
Turning my sorrows into a swan song.

    繁華盛世似月星跌墜
The grandeur of life is (transient) like falling stars.
    (月星 means moon and stars.)

    大笑過後灑眼淚
    Laughter is followed by tears.

    夢裡我是瘋子不是誰
In my dreams, I am just a lunatic OR
I must be insane in my dreams.

    為何讓你進駐我心裡
Why did I allow you to enter my heart?

    未伸手去碰已後退
I faltered (meaning hesitated) before I even reached out my hand to touch you.

    浮雲葉絮會隨風散聚
The clouds and leaves meet and part by the force of the wind.

    煩惱太重心太累
My heart is burdened with too much anxiety.

    沒有寄望也就沒唏噓
Where there’s no hope, there are no tears.
    (唏噓 means crying or tears.)

    痛到何程度值得真流淚
How deep is the pain worth my tears?
(There is no word in the original sentence meaning “endless”.
    真 means true, real.)

    愛到何程度值得一再追
How deep is the love worth my relentless pursuit?

    地老再等天荒 多麼教人憔悴
    Endless waiting wore me out.

    誓言若似太難記住別記取
If it’s difficult to remember an oath, we should forget it.

    到哪天承受什麼都能睡
When can I force myself to sleep disregarding all troubles and distress?

    要哪天才愿活得心似水
When can I live a peaceful life?
    (心似水 actually means peace.)

    步上了這天階 怎可往後退
I’m walking on the stairs leading to heaven and I cannot fall back.

    自言自語我越說就越心虛
The more I talk to myself, the more unconfident I become.

    都只得說下去
but I have to talk on.

    尋常別過哪日可再聚
Having parted, when can we meet again? OR
Having parted, we look forward to our reunion.

    誰也發現失去誰
The meaning of this Chinese sentence is unclear; it may mean “we realize we’ve lost each other.”

    亦會繼續過度換新居
And we’ll move on (in the journey of life).

    Well done, Charlotte !

    夜盡了 我會暢快飲醉
The night has come to the end, I immersed myself in wine.
(shldn’t it be “…..I will soon be drunk.”

    夢裡我是瘋子不是誰
(In my dreams, I am a lunatic and a nobody)

    未伸手去碰已後退
I faltered (meaning hesitated) before I even reached out my hand to touch you.
(Before extending my hand to you, I already withdrew)

    痛到何程度值得真流淚
How deep is the pain worth my tears?
(To what extent the pain that is worthy of my tears ?)

    愛到何程度值得一再追
How deep is the love worth my relentless pursuit?
(To what extent the love that is worthy of another pursuit?)

    要哪天才愿活得心似水
When can I live a peaceful life?
(When can my life become peaceful?)

    到哪天承受什麼都能睡
When can I force myself to sleep disregarding all troubles and distress?
(Until when, no matter what I receive, I can still sleep?)

    步上了這天階 怎可往後退
I’m walking on the stairs leading to heaven and I cannot fall back.
Walking up the path to heaven, how can I (now) retreat ?)

    誰也發現失去誰
The meaning of this Chinese sentence is unclear; it may mean “we realize we’ve lost each other.”
( literally it means – “who will discover who he / she has lost?”

It’s how I see it, based on the usage of chinese words & their import.
Translation into anglo often trims the beauty of chinese expressions.

    Hi Jaray,
I’m really, truly, very happy to see your comments and have your views here. Your translation is more concise; conciseness means beauty. :)

By the way, you’re an active participant on Honey Pot forum, right? We used to talk there, but not too often. :) Did you go to see Fung on Astro night?

I would just like to bring up some points for a further discussion.

    夜盡了 我會暢快飲醉
The night has come to the end, I immersed myself in wine.
(shldn’t it be “…..I will soon be drunk.”)

飲醉does mean drunk, but I intended to translate the Chinese word
暢快, so I used “immerse”. Anyway, immerse oneself in wine does sound odd. :)

    夢裡我是瘋子不是誰
(In my dreams, I am a lunatic and a nobody)

I purposely didn’t translate 不是誰, as it’s just a repetition, or an emphasis of 我是瘋子. As you know, in English “I’m nobody” is an idiom meaning I’m an ordinary person, nameless and obscure, as opposed to “I’m somebody”.

    未伸手去碰已後退
I faltered (meaning hesitated) before I even reached out my hand to touch you.
(Before extending my hand to you, I already withdrew)

Yours is more concise. I admit I may have been affected by the original translation. I like yours at the first sight, but now I’ve thought of another. “I withdrew instead of extending my hand to you”, so it makes more sense in reality. :)

    愛到何程度值得一再追
How deep is the love worth my relentless pursuit?
(To what extent the love that is worthy of another pursuit?)

再means another, but一再 is one complete word meaning persistent, (yes, “persistent” should be a better choice)

    到哪天承受什麼都能睡
When can I force myself to sleep disregarding all troubles and distress?
(Until when, no matter what I receive, I can still sleep?)

I like your version except that the Chinese word 承受 implies more than the word “receive” may mean, so I would want to use “suffer”. It becomes “When, no matter what I suffer, I can still sleep?”

    步上了這天階 怎可往後退
I’m walking on the stairs leading to heaven and I cannot fall back.
Walking up the path to heaven, how can I (now) retreat?)

    Excellent!

    誰也發現失去誰
The meaning of this Chinese sentence is unclear; it may mean “we realize we’ve lost each other.”
( literally it means – “who will discover who he / she has lost?”

    Agree.

Thanks for sharing your views. The beauty of the language may get lost during translation, and besides, in many cases we can only translate the meaning, not the word. In fact, I believe translating the meaning is the true purpose of translation.
